COVID-19’s Impact on Patient Mental Health

The CDC reports that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused mental health challenges resulting from the disease and from the efforts to mitigate it, including social distancing and stay-at-home orders. Depression and anxiety have increased considerably from April to June 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. Patients are suffering from overuse of alcohol and substances, increases in domestic violence, increased PTSD and abnormal grief. During this session, you will learn how to help your patients through these complex issues.
- Describe how COVID-19 has changed the landscape of behavioral health and addiction services in the US including the increasing use of telehealth.
- Discuss the fundamentals of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) assessment and treatment.
- List three effective strategies for minimizing mental health sequalae of quarantine.
