Becoming a POD: A Success Story
Recorded Saturday, April 10, 2021
As family physicians we know that we are the best clinicians to immunize our patients against COVID-19. However, the process is not as straight forward as it seems. Beyond applying to become a point of distribution (POD), the practice needs to report patient vaccine data to the NJIIS daily, safely store the vaccine and monitor temperature using data loggers, know timing, temperature, and other requirements specific to the vaccine they are administering, and be able to observe for and deal with allergic reactions along with other considerations in managing a vaccine program. In this panel discussion, representatives from Vanguard and the VNA Community Health Centers will share best practices on how they prepared for and became a successful POD for the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Describe the steps needed to become a point of dispensing (POD) for the COVID-19 vaccines
- Review challenges in becoming and acting as a COVID-19 vaccine POD as a family practice
- Explain the importance of complying with the NJIIS regulations regarding the COVID-19 vaccine
- Describe best practices to become a point of distribution for the COVID-19 vaccine
